Kenny Chesney talked a lot about his love for the islands and when Hurricane Irma hit his beloved Virgin Islands in September, he was the first to help and move on.
Seven months later, Chesney reveals plans for "Songs for the Saints", an album deeply influenced by Irma's devastation of the islands and the resistance she lives among the most affected residents.
"This is not a literal record," said Chesney in a statement. "But, it's an album about the shelters we all have, how life is temporary and how we navigate to better places, dig and face destruction, and sometimes we learn to own our wild hearts in the process . " .
A deep immersion in "the places that save you".
Available on July 27, "Songs for the Saints" is Chesney's first album in Blue Chair / Warner Bros. Nashville. He changed labels last year after separating from the Sony Music Nashville label. Chesney co-produced the 12-track collection with Buddy Cannon, and said the songs are a deep dive into "the places that save him".
"So much has happened since I left the road in 2016," said Chesney. "And all, one way or another, ended up on this record, it's special for me because of what he says, for me and for me, about life, about the world around us , fragility find the best parts of you and move towards them. "
The first single from the album, "Get Along", was written by Shane McAnally, Josh Osborne and Ross Copperman and is close to the Top 10 of Country Radio. Chesney wrote or co-wrote five songs in "Songs for the Saints".
"I feel like I know what this album is supposed to be, and I know what it means to me," said Chesney in a statement. "I wanted to do well before setting a release date ... and I think we have it, I'm glad we can get it in time to play some of these songs this summer before the end of the tour Trip Around the Sun ".
Chesney will bring his Trip Around the Sun Tour to Nissan Stadium on August 11th. Tickets are available through Tickets4festivals.
